This is nothing but today.

There will be lengthy and pondering posts (perhaps), but first: a meme! The Year In LiveJournal. What is it, first line of first post of each month? Something like that. (Again, for very stretchy values of "line." Because I like to get the feel of what was going on.)

Happy New Year!

So there's this meme where you post eight days of something that made you happy that day.

Why only eight, I wonder? I'm sure someone had a reason. The Beatles, maybe. Anyway, I think I'll do it for the rest of 2008. :)

Things that have made me happy today:

* Waking up in loving arms.
* Purple stripey over-the-knee socks, which I bought on a whim last month and forgot until today, but today I remembered them and thought they'd be nice and toasty under jeans. I definitely need more most-of-my-leg socks.
* Torrey exclaiming "You have Cheshire Cat socks!"
* My biggest thickest men's department sweater.
* Walking in the cold sunshine. (We have it here too.) Icy sidewalks that have railings.
* My iPod on shuffle. Dancing on street corners while waiting for lights to change.
* My warmest fleece scarf, what my sister gave me, and doubled-up fleece gloves.
* Adding Cheshire Cat floor mats to my wish list. STOP LAUGHING. The car's floors are threadbare and stained and these are adorable.

And, it goes without saying, the friends and loves in my life. But they make me happy *every* day, and that would get old for memetic purposes, and isn't quite what this meme is intended for, and anyway I would owe Lauren a whole lot of quarters by New Year's. :D

...since I can't fathom what people might say.

Because sometimes you gotta.

* Hot showers, aka God's own invention.
* Tasty ice cream treats what are low fat and yet still tasty!
* Really nice, caring and understanding bosses, and a job that lets me take some sanity time and set my own pace.
* Friends who leave crazy charming voice mails.
* Friends who point out shiny pretty things just 'cause they think I'd like them.
* Shiny pretty artwork.
* Virtual retail therapy. That is, buying clothes and accessories for game avatars. Yes, it really is almost as satisfying as...
* *Real* retail therapy (and the anticipation thereof).
* Incredibly gorgeous autumn foliage.
* Rain!
* Achieving small goals (so far). Go me!
* Growly-Dino and Kicky-Dino (borrowed but fierce protectors of the stapler and the phone). Rawr.
* The kindness of strangers.
* Working heaters when I'm cold.
* Canadian Thanksgiving, and people who have it off, who include...
* Visiting Canadians, who are bringing...
* Visiting husband!
* Love.

Alright, you've had a couple of days. That's plenty!

Oh now this is kinda cute. Got it from loree. Yes, I am indulging in escapism on my lunch break. It's been a long week already, and a particularly insane day today.

1 - Go to Wikipedia's "random article" link. The first random article you get is the name of your band. (I cheated and shortened it a little.)
2 - Go to Random quotations. The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album. (I cheated and did five because it worked better.)
3 - Go to flickr's "explore the last seven days". Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover. (I cropped mine to be proper album dimensions.)

I've given in to the inevitable, and created a Facebook account.

Mostly it was so that I could see the Nationwide Freeze Event; someone on the Seattle IE Global community set it up to try to get more people.

Feel free to add me. (Some of you were too quick for me and have noticed already.)

We're also in the process of giving in to the inevitable and creating a MySpace page for vixy and Tony. But right now there's nothing on it. (I need to get around to figuring out how to customize the look, graphics, etc. because I am unthrilled with all the basic themes.)

Y'know, despite the holiday, I really should get some work done...

Saw this chez filkerdave and it looks like fun. Take a song, run it through Babelfish: English to German, German to French, French to Portuguese, Portuguese to English.

These aren't really going to be hard to guess, but they amused me anyway. :)
